Dolphins players, Julius Thomas, Michael Thomas and Kenny Stills kneeled Sunday during the playing of the national anthem after head coach Adam Gase softened his stance regarding protests.
Prior to Sunday, Gase had asked his players to either stand for the anthem or stay in the tunnel — which the three players did.
Gase allowed his players to kneel during the anthem Sunday after they told him staying in the tunnel affects their game preparation, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.
“He just gave us the go,” Michael Thomas said. “That was it. He was like, ‘Do what y’all gotta do. Don’t think about what y’all are going to do like come in the locker room before the anthem. None of that. Just go out there and play. If y'all want to take a knee, take a knee.’
“He’s not worried about that. He’s just trying to win games.”
The Dolphins ultimately lost to the Raiders, 27-24.
