It appears Adrian Peterson's season is over.

The Cardinals are set to place their star running back on the season-ending injured-reserve list with a neck injury, the NFL reported Thursday.

After failing to gain sufficient playing time with the Saints early this season, Peterson was traded to the Cardinals. He ultimately rushed for 529 yards and two touchdowns, but he had not played since Nov. 26, when he rushed for 79 yards against the Jaguars.

Peterson’s neck injury won’t require surgery, but it only adds to his plethora of missed games throughout his career. He sat out 11 games last season (torn meniscus) and also missed time in 2013, 2011, 2010 and 2007 due to injuries.

Peterson, 32, still has one year remaining on his contract.
