NFL 2018 Wild Card: Colts vs. Texans preview, statistics, odds image

The Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans will meet in postseason action for the first time when the NFL's Wild Card Weekend kicks off Saturday.

It's as unlikely a match-up as any in the playoffs this year, with both teams having undergone marked improvements to even reach the postseason after missing out last year. In fact, it may be tough to say which team was less likely to be in this game when the season began.

The Texans return to the postseason after becoming one of two NFL teams to complete a worst-to-first campaign this year. As impressive as that feat is, Houston's playoff drought was only one year long while the Colts are set to taste postseason action for the first time since 2014.

Both teams' stunning turnarounds set the backdrop for a Wild Card clash that could be a classic.

Despite sporting the better overall record, the Texans (11-5) head into Saturday's game with less momentum than the 10-5 Colts. Indianapolis is riding a four-game winning streak into the playoffs, the first of which came in Houston at the expense of the Texans on Dec. 9.

Will this game end the same for the surging Colts, or will the Texans defend their home turf this time?

Colts vs. Texans head-to-head stats

  • This is the first-ever postseason meeting between these AFC South rivals, but Indianapolis holds an overwhelming 26-8 advantage in all-time regular-season contests against Houston.
  • The teams met twice this season, with each team claiming a road victory.
  • In the most recent meeting (Dec. 9), the Colts got to Texans QB Deshaun Watson early and often. Watson was sacked six times in that 24-21 Colts victory.
  • On the other side of the field, Colts QB Andrew Luck seemingly had his way on Dec. 9, throwing for 399 yards with two touchdown passes. Luck also rushed for 16 yards.
  • Indianapolis was 3-1 in its final four road games of the regular season, allowing just 282.8 yards per game in that span. The Colts will need more of that if they want to prevail at NRG Stadium on Saturday.

Colts vs. Texans betting odds

The Texans are 4-point favourites at home. The over/under is set at 48.5 points.
