The New England Patriots made a statement in Week 4 with a big victory over the AFC East-leading Miami Dolphins, and they'll look to continue their winning ways when they host the Indianapolis Colts at Gillette Stadium on Thursday to kick off Week 5.
The Patriots were mired below .500 when they faced off against the Dolphins, but a 38-7 result showed that Tom Brady's men are still a force to be reckoned with. Brady was 23 of 35 for 274 passing yards and three touchdowns against Miami, but it was the New England defence that starred as it held Miami to just 172 total yards in the game.
Meanwhile, the Colts have a lot of positivity to look back on despite suffering a 37-34 Week 4 loss to visiting Houston. That contest required overtime to resolve things after the Colts mounted a furious fourth-quarter comeback to tie the game up, but the Texans were able to pull it out in the extra frame.
Andrew Luck hit a career high for pass attempts in the loss to Houston, throwing the ball 62 times. Luck completed 40 of those passes for 464 yards and four touchdowns, and he'll be relied upon heavily if the Colts are going to reverse their road woes against New England.
Colts-Pats head-to-head statistics
- The Patriots are on a dominant run of games against the Colts, with New England winning the last seven meetings (including playoffs) between the two teams. The Patriots have scored at least 30 points in each of those games while limiting the Colts to under 30 every time.
- Along with New England's dominance over Indianapolis, the Patriots are enjoying a similar hot streak at Gillette Stadium. Brady and Co. have won seven straight in Foxborough, while the Colts have been victorious just once in their last five contests on the road.
- If the Colts are to be successful in this game, a lot will be riding on Luck's passing. In Week 4, Indianapolis running back Nyheim Hines was a frequent target for Luck, becoming the first Colts rookie with at least nine pass receptions and two touchdown receptions in a single game.
- Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri will look to add to his all-time record for field goals made in an NFL career after claiming sole possession atop the leaderboard with his 567th successful field goal last week.
Colts-Pats odds
The Patriots are 10-point favourites at home. The over-under is set at 51.5.
