The Christmas Eve showdown between the Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders looks to be more of a lump of coal in the collective stockings of NFL fans rather than a holiday gift.
Denver (6-8) and Oakland (3-11) are the two worst teams in the AFC West by a long shot, and nothing that happens during Monday's contest will change that. Both teams are looking way up at the Chiefs and Chargers, with neither having any chance of catching their divisional foes.
That's not to say there isn't anything to play for, however.

The visiting Broncos could conceivably finish the season at .500 with a pair of wins to close out the campaign. That would obviously mean claiming victory in Oakland on Monday, but Denver has to like its chances given the Raiders' league-worst record heading into Week 16.
Like their opponents, the Raiders have little more than pride to play for. They head into Monday's match-up on the heels of a 30-16 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, and will look to close out their home schedule with a victory.
Given that this may be the last-ever NFL game played at Oakland Alameda Coliseum, there will be more at stake than usual for the league's worst team.
Broncos vs. Raiders head-to-head stats
- The Raiders hold the advantage in the all-time series between these teams, sporting a 62-52-2 record.
- However, the Broncos have claimed three of the past four meetings, including a 20-19 victory in September.
- If Oakland is going to win Monday's game, the play of Derek Carr will be a big factor. The Raiders quarterback was 29-of-32 for 288 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions against the Broncos in September, and has a 122.8 rating (four TDs, zero INTs) in his past three games against Denver.
- Case Keenum was on the winning side of that September meeting despite a more modest personal stat line. Keenum passed for 222 yards with one INT and a rushing TD in that game.
- The Raiders' woes are nearly equal at home and on the road. At Oakland Alameda Coliseum this season, the Raiders have won just twice. It's their lowest output at home since 2009.
Broncos vs. Raiders betting odds
The Raiders are 1.5-point favourites at home. The over/under is set at 42 points.
