NFL 2018 Week 13: Rams vs. Lions preview, statistics, odds image

When the Los Angeles Rams travel to Detroit to face the Lions on Sunday, they probably won't have to put up as many points as they did in Week 11 to get a win. Los Angeles is coming off a bye week, but a week prior it played in one of the highest-scoring games of all-time, beating the Kanas City Chiefs 54-51.

Jared Goff had a spectacular game throwing for 413 yards and four touchdowns, rushing for another and a 117.1 passer rating. Wide receiver Brandin Cooks was Goff's top target as he finished with eight catches and 107 receiving yards. Someone who shockingly didn't have a great game was running back Todd Gurley. He finished with only 55 rush yards and failed to get in the end zone, making it the first time this season that he didn't score a touchdown.

While the Rams did allow 51 points, their defense did make big plays. They picked off Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes three times while defensive tackle Aaron Donald forced him to fumble twice. Linebacker Samson Ebukam finished with two defensive touchdowns.

With the win, the Rams moved to 10-1 on the season and have scored at least 30 points in nine of their 11 games. Entering Sunday they have the No. 2 seed in the NFC as their one loss came against No. 1 seed New Orleans.

The Detroit Lions season has not been anywhere near as pretty as the Rams. Detroit is 4-7 this year and has lost four of its last five games. They are coming off a week of extended rest as they lost to the Chicago Bears, 23-16, on American Thanksgiving.

Matt Stafford's less than stellar season continued in Week 12 as he threw for 236 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions with a 67.4 passer rating. His first interception resulted in a game-winning pick-six for the Bears and then he was picked off in the end zone in the final minutes as the Lions were driving to tie the game.

Detroit's leading rusher Kerryon Johnson sat out last week's game due to a knee sprain. He did not practice on Wednesday and his status for Sunday is unknown.

The Lions defense held their ground against Chicago as they only allowed 264 yards; however, it should be noted the Bears did have their backup quarterback Chase Daniel in due to Mitch Trubisky's shoulder injury. On Sunday, the Rams offense will be a much tougher test for them as Los Angeles has the second-best offense in the league.

Rams vs. Lions head to-head-stats

  • Two below average units go head-to-head as the Los Angeles Rams defense and Detroit Lions offense haven't lived up to expectations this season. The Rams defense ranks 20th, allowing 372.5 yards per game this season while the Lions offense ranks 23rd with 342.7 yards per game.
  • Flipping things around, the Rams have scored with ease this season. They're third in scoring with 35.4 points per game. It looks like they'll be able to score at ease again on Sunday as the Detroit Lions scoring defense ranks 24th in the NFL with 26 points per game allowed.
  • Todd Gurley likes playing the Lions. In two career matchups, Gurley has a combined 244 scrimmage yards and two rushing touchdowns. Despite a less than solid performance in Week 11, he still leads the league in scrimmage yards with 1,484 yards.
  • Detroit's offensive line has to prepare itself for Los Angeles' pass rush, specifically Aaron Donald. The defensive lineman leads the league with 14.5 sacks while the Lions are in the middle of the pack in sacks allowed, ranking 20th with 32 sacks allowed.

Rams vs. Lions betting odds

The Rams are 10-point road favorites on Sunday. The over/under is set at 55.5 points.
