It's the best of the NFC North taking on the worst on American Thanksgiving.
The high-flying Chicago Bears (7-3) travel to Ford Field on Thursday to take on the Detroit Lions (4-6), who are mired at the bottom of the division. The Turkey Day affair gives the Bears, currently on a four-game winning streak, the ability to go above .500 on the road and take a stranglehold on the NFC North.
Detroit's home form has been good thus far, with the Lions having claimed three of their four overall victories at Ford Field this season. The most recent home victory came earlier in the week, as the Lions were able to hold off a fourth-quarter surge by the visiting Carolina Panthers and secure a 20-19 win on Sunday.
Another thing that could swing momentum into Detroit's favour is the status of Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who suffered a right shoulder injury over the weekend to cast his participation in Thursday's contest in doubt. However, Trubisky is reportedly feeling better and the only question is whether three days' rest is enough for the 24-year-old to fully recover.
Bears vs. Lions head-to-head stats
- These teams last met just 11 days prior American Thanksgiving, with the Bears running out as expected winners. In that 34-22 victory, Chicago quarterback Mitchell Trubisky was 23-for-30 with 355 passing yards and three touchdown passes.
- Detroit has only won four times this season, with three of those victories coming at home. In those games, the Lions average 25.7 points per game while conceding just 17.3 points per game.
- Despite the Bears' great overall record this year, they've yet to defeat an NFC North opponent on the road in eight straight games. It's the longest such streak for the team since the mid-1970s.
- If Chicago is to break its horrid road streak against divisional opposition, defence will play a big part. The Bears have already amassed 18 interceptions this year, just six behind their combined total for the previous three seasons.
- Matthew Stafford has thrown 19 career INTs against the Bears, including two in the most recent meeting between the teams on Nov. 11.
Bears vs. Lions betting odds
The Bears are favoured by 12 on the road. The over/under is 44.5.
