Chargers coach Anthony Lynn told reporters Monday that Melvin Gordon is expected to play against the Ravens next Sunday.
However, a report by well-known sports doctor Dr. David Chao said Gordon's ankle injury might be more serious than the team initially believed and he is "not automatic" for next week's game.
Gordon limped off the field in Sunday's season finale in the fourth quarter and did not return. He said he "tweaked" his ankle.

Chao, who spent 17 seasons as the Chargers' team physician and now writes a column, "ProFootballDoc," for the San Diego Union-Tribune, said after watching a replay that the injury looks similar to the one suffered this season by Steelers running back James Conner. The second-year back was initially supposed to be ready for the following week's game after treatment but ended up missing three games.

Dr. Chao also notes that the injury occurred on the same side on which Gordon suffered a right knee MCL sprain on Nov. 25. That injury forced him to miss several games.
Lynn said Gordon will receive treatment and be monitored during the week. If he can't go, Austin Ekeler would carry the load.
