Why is Mason Crosby kicking for Giants? New York signs 39-year-old former Packer for spot Christmas duty image

It's not over for Mason Crosby. The former-Packer will get his Christmas gift when he makes his season debut for the Giants.

The kicker signed with New York for its Christmas game against the Eagles after the Giants lost yet another kicker. Cade York headed to the practice squad with a leg injury after being named the replacement for Randy Bullock, who replaced Graham Gano. Bullock was also placed on injury reserve this week with a hamstring injury, while Gano underwent season-ending knee surgery in November.

Crosby has not played a game this season, struggling to find a fit with a new team, but spent plenty of time in Green Bay becoming a Packer legend.

Crosby is 39 years old, having been born on Sept. 3, 1984.

He grew up in Georgetown, Texas, and played football at Colorado from 2003-2006. He was drafted in the sixth round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Packers and earned the starting kicking role as a rookie. Ironically, his first career game ended in a win against the Eagles with a 42-yard field goal in the final seconds of the game.
