Sunday afternoon's Lions vs. Buccaneers divisional-round matchup brings NFL fans, bettors, and DFS enthusiasts an intriguing duel between veteran QBs Jared Goff and Baker Mayfield. We could be in for a barrage of scoring, as both teams have dynamic offenses and somewhat-horrific secondaries.
As we have with all of the divisional-round matchups, today we will share our optimal DFS lineups for this NFC clash. Along the way, we will provide advice, strategy, and sleepers for DraftKings, FanDuel, and SuperDraft so you can spend boost your weekend with some daily fantasy cash.
Some might refer to this matchup as an embarrassment of offensive riches. Goff has the luxury of having a two-headed monster in the backfield, formed by veteran power back David Montgomery and rookie hybrid Jahmyr Gibbs. Detroit also has stud wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown and Pro Bowl rookie tight end Sam LaPorta, so Dan Campbell's scoring options seem endless.
On Tampa Bay's side, we've seen QB guru Dave Canales — who turned Geno Smith into a Pro Bowler last year — help Baker Mayfield revive his career and contend for an NFC title. Mayfield has averaged 289.4 passing yards per game over the Bucs' past five contests, and Tampa obliterated the defending NFC-champion Eagles last week despite stud wideout MIke Evans having a down game.
Let's jump right into our optimal Lions-Bucs lineups for DraftKings, FanDuel, and SuperDraft DFS contests. Good luck, have fun, and enjoy the second round of the postseason!
Lions vs. Buccaneers NFL DFS picks: Optimal DraftKings lineup
Before we get into our lineup and strategy, here are the key scoring settings for DraftKings Showdown contests: They're full-point PPR and there are three-point bonuses for 300 passing yards, 100 rushing yards, and 100 receiving yards. The Captain pick costs 1.5 times a player's original price, but he also gets his point total multiplied by 1.5.
Pos. | Player | Team/Opponent | Salary |
Captain | Baker Mayfield | Buccaneers at Lions | $14,400 |
FLEX | Amon-Ra St. Brown | Lions vs. Buccaneers | $11,200 |
FLEX | Mike Evans | Buccaneers at Lions | $10,200 |
FLEX | Jared Goff | Lions vs. Buccaneers | $10,000 |
FLEX | David Moore | Buccaneers at Lions | $2,800 |
FLEX | Donovan Peoples-Jones | Lions vs. Buccaneers | $1,000 |
Captain: Baker Mayfield, QB, Buccaneers ($14,400)
Mayfield has been dynamite in his first season with the Bucs, and it's clear the former No. 1 draft pick has regained his swagger. He has averaged 18.1 DK points per game (PPG) but demonstrated his massive ceiling in a 30.1-point performance last week against the Eagles. Like Philly, Detroit has a pretty weak secondary, so we have no doubt Baker will cook up a good score for the 1.5-times multiplier this Sunday.
FLEX: Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR, Lions ($11,200)
An underrated fantasy wideout (and overlooked Pro Bowl snub), St. Brown enters this weekend averaging 22.3 DK PPG. He has been even more 'en fuego' over the past five weeks, though, averaging 26.5 PPG despite some difficult matchups. Tampa Bay is not a difficult matchup — in fact, the Bucs secondary has become almost as porous as the Lions'. The Sun God should light it up this Sunday.
FLEX 2: Mike Evans, WR, Buccaneers ($10,200)
Have you ever seen Mike Evans play two poor games in a row? We certainly can't recall it happening. Evans had multiple drops last week against the Eagles, a performance he will certainly want to atone for as he looks to help the Bucs advance to the NFC Championship game. He's as steady-handed, clutch, and dependable as veteran wideouts come — and his touchdown upside remains massive — so we're firing him up in what should be a shootout.
FLEX 3: Jared Goff, QB, Lions ($10,000)
At this point, you can probably tell that we're going with a true "stars and scrubs" build. We have built the core of our lineup with all players costing between $10K and $15K, leaving us with scraps to fill out the remaining two flex spots. It feels like a worthwhile strategy in this case, though, as Mayfield (with the boost), ARSB, Evans, and Goff average a combined 84.8 PPG but all have monstrous ceilings in what should be a true QB duel. Both defenses stifle the run but act like turnstiles against the pass. Let's ride!
FLEX 4: David Moore, WR, Buccaneers ($2,800)
The veteran Moore caught 2-of-3 passes for 66 yards and a TD last week, so he has a darn good opportunity to step up in three-wide sets again this weekend against a beatable Lions secondary. This is the definition of a boom-or-bust play, but we'll take any opportunity for a boom at this price range.
FLEX 5: Donovan Peoples-Jones, WR, Lions ($1,000)
Bargain bin alert! DPJ can't be trusted as a source of double-digit points, but he could very well haul in a couple catches or break off one long grab. Maybe we'll see him in garbage time if one of these teams leaves the other in their dust. Who knows? All we know is our expectations are very low at this price spot — we're not justifying drafting him, because the presence of the four studs atop our lineup does the justification for us.
Lions vs. Buccaneers NFL DFS picks: Optimal FanDuel lineup
Here are the key scoring settings for FanDuel single-game tournaments: They're half-point PPR and there are no three-point bonuses for 300 passing yards, 100 rushing yards, or 100 receiving yards. The MVP pick multiplies that player's total by 1.5 but does not cost 1.5 times their listed salary.
Pos. | Player | Team/Opponent | Salary |
MVP | Amon-Ra St. Brown | Lions vs. Buccaneers | $16,000 |
FLEX | Baker Mayfield | Buccaneers at Lions | $15,000 |
FLEX | David Montgomery | Lions vs. Buccaneers | $12,000 |
FLEX | Cade Otton | Buccaneers at Lions | $9,000 |
FLEX | Jameson Williams | Lions vs. Buccaneers | $8,000 |
We decided to put St. Brown at the MVP spot in our FanDuel lineup, as we don't pay any extra dough for that 1.5-times boost like we do on DraftKings. We stuck with Mayfield as the Lions have surrendered more FD PPG to QBs than any other team in the NFL this season.
Montgomery has crazy upside in half-PPR settings, as he has scored 14 TDs since the start of the 2023. Cade Otton, who also has a high ceiling as a TD target, seems like a great value at $9,000 and Jameson Williams has big-play upside at $8,000 — which is basically like the FD version of the bargain bin.
Lions vs. Buccaneers NFL DFS picks: Optimal SuperDraft lineup
As we have every week, we're also listing our favorite DFS plays on SuperDraft. SD doesn't have a single-game DFS contest for Lions-Bucs, but it does have a Sunday DFS contest that includes the player pools from both Lions-Bucs in the afternoon and Bills-Chiefs at night.
For those unfamiliar, SuperDraft's DFS scoring involves point multipliers as opposed to traditional salary-capped or tiered contests. A winning lineup will likely feature a strong mix of stud fantasy contributors with 1x-1.6x boosts, as well as matchup-based sleepers with larger multipliers. Each player is assigned a scoring multiplier based on their value as determined by SuperDraft. Users can roster any player in their lineup with no restrictions.
Here are the most notable scoring rules for SuperDraft NFL contests: Half-point PPR, four-point passing TDs, and two-point bonuses for 100 rushing yards, 100 receiving yards, and 300 passing yards. SuperDraft lineups feature no D/ST position.
Pos. | Player | Game | Boost |
QB | Baker Mayfield | Buccaneers at Lions | 1.3x |
RB | Jahmyr Gibbs | Lions vs. Buccaneers | 1x |
RB | James Cook | Bills vs. Chiefs | 1.05x |
WR | Amon-Ra St. Brown | Lions vs. Buccaneers | 1x |
WR | Mike Evans | Buccaneers at Lions | 1.15x |
WR | Chris Godwin | Buccaneers at Lions | 1.25x |
TE | Dalton Kincaid | Bills vs. Chiefs | 1.2x |
FLEX | Khalil Shakir | Bills vs. Chiefs | 1.6x |
MORE SUPERDRAFT DFS: How to play SuperDraft
We grabbed a bunch of the same players we drafted to DK and FD, including Mayfield, ARSB, and Evans. We triple-stacked Bucs as we simply don't see Rachaad White getting much going against the vaunted Lions front-seven. Gibbs and Cook have the best big play-ability of any RBs in this two-game slate, and Godwin, Kincaid, and Shakir all have the ability to go off and find the end zone.
