Kenyan Drake injury update: Dolphins running back in walking boot, Week 1 status in question image

Dolphins running back Kenyan Drake, who left Tuesday's practice with an injury, returned to the team facility in a walking boot Wednesday.

Dolphins head coach Brian Flores did not reveal the nature of the injury, but according to the Miami Herald, Drake's preseason is likely done, and his availability for the season opener is in "some doubt."

“We take things day to day here,” Flores said. “The opener’s down the road. He’s got a little injury, and I think we — he’s just going to take it day to day. He’s got a great attitude about it. I think he’ll be okay.”

Drake had 1,012 yards from scrimmage and nine touchdowns last season and will always be remembered in Dolphins history for scoring the "Miami Miracle" touchdown that stunned the Patriots last December.

The 25-year-old back is expected to get the bulk of the carries with running back Kalen Ballage seeing significant playing time. Ballage ripped off two impressive touchdown runs in a joint practice against the Buccaneers on Wednesday.

“They all work together,” Flores said. “It’s 11 guys. When you put 11 guys (out there) and they execute their responsibility you’ll get a good play. Kalen did a good job making a guy miss and that’s how you get long runs — receivers block, and blocking corners and secondary players and that’s how you get long runs. It takes everybody.”
