Jordan Love played just three snaps in the Packers first preseason game, and that might be all the field time he gets before the regular season begins.
The Packers quarterback, who recently signed a four-year, $220 million contract, will sit out the team's Week 2 preseason game against the Broncos. It's also possible he remains sidelined in Week 3 against the Ravens.
Starters typically don't play much of the preseason for either precautionary reasons or if they're recovering from an injury like Aaron Rodgers or Kirk Cousins. Still, healthy starters usually play at least a quarter.
Love could see a total of three snaps before starting the regular season on Friday, Sept. 6, against the Eagles.
Here's why the Packers quarterback won't play against the Broncos and what his status is for the rest of preseason.

Why isn't Jordan Love playing for the Broncos?
Love won't play against the Broncos in Week 2 of the preseason to get additional rest.
Head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters after the team's first preseason match that he planned to sit Love and most of the starters against the Broncos. The two squads had a joint practice on Friday, which gave Love the needed reps this week.
"Because we have the competitive practice versus the Broncos, use that as their game reps and let the other guys play for the most part in that second preseason game," LaFleur said after preseason Week 1. "Then we'll reevaluate it for the third one."
This is on-brand for LaFleur, who hadn't played Aaron Rodgers in a preseason game from 2019-2022. Love did, however, play in all three games last year.
The fourth-year quarterback backed LaFleur about the possibility of not playing another snap this preseason, but he also wouldn't mind seeing some more reps.
"I think we could go into it, just jump into the season," Love said after preseason Week 1. "But I think maybe getting a couple more snaps here in the preseason would be nice."

Is Jordan Love injured?
Don't worry, Love is not injured. He is just sitting out Week 2 of the preseason for precautionary reasons and rest.
The Packers star quarterback played just three snaps in Week 1 of the preseason, connecting with Dontayvion Wicks for a 65-yard touchdown. LaFleur saw enough and has given Love reps during practice that'll replace his game time.
Love may not play another snap in the preseason, but rest assured that he isn't injured.
