Jemele Hill is leaving her role as ESPN "SportsCenter" co-anchor to join the network's "The Undefeated," Sports Illustrated reported Friday.
Hill will reportedly leave the network's 6 p.m. "SC6" program in February, around the one-year anniversary of her debut on the show. According to SI, multiple sources say Hill requested the new role.
According to the New York Post, Hill has three years remaining on a four-year contract. She joined the network in 2013.
Hill sparked controversy last year when she referred to President Donald Trump as a "white supremacist." That led the White House to call for her dismissal. ESPN later issued a statement saying it had addressed the issue with Hill, and that her comments "do not represent the position of ESPN."
A month later, the network suspended Hill for two weeks for violating the company's social media policy. Hill had said on Twitter that Cowboys fans upset with team owner Jerry Jones' stance on the national anthem should boycott the team's sponsors.
Hill will reportedly write and host town halls for "The Undefeated," a site that focuses on the relationship between sports, race and culture.
The Post reports that Hill's "SC6" co-anchor, Michael Smith, will host the show solo for now.
