Jared Goff contract extension: Lions want to keep quarterback in Detroit beyond 2024 image

Jared Goff has resurrected his career in Detroit.

The quarterback came to the Lions in a 2021 swap for swashbuckling slinger Matthew Stafford. Yet while the former Rams starter had lost some of his shine before the trade, Goff has recaptured glory since his arrival.

Ahead of the Lions' NFC championship matchup, Goff's name swirls across the state of Michigan. He's got the Lions in a position they've rarely been before: the brink of a Super Bowl. And that's got the Lions' front office brass envisioning a future with Goff.

Detroit is gearing up to make Goff an offer at season's end, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

"The Detroit Lions never considered him a bridge quarterback, always thought he would be the franchise guy," Rapoport said. "Now, they'll have the opportunity to pay him like one."

Goff, 29, was one of the league's most productive QBs in 2023, posting career highs in yardage (4,575 yards) and completion percentage (67.2%) while tossing 30 touchdowns to just 12 interceptions.

Currently in the penultimate season of the four-year, $164 million extension he inked as a member of the Rams back in 2019, Goff could be on pace to earn an even bigger payday the next time he goes on the open market.

Jared Goff contract details

Since Goff's extension kicked in, he's earned $33.5 million in average annual value (AAV). That's nothing to scoff at, although it lags behind some of the league's highest-paid passers, such as Joe Burrow ($55 million), Patrick Mahomes ($52.65 million), Justin Herbert ($52.5 million) and Lamar Jackson ($52 million).

Given his proficiency with the arm in 2023 — Goff finished the year ranked seventh in completion percentage, fourth in touchdown passes and second in yards — Goff could be on pace to see that number increase.

With the market for QBs being what is — remember, Daniel Jones just received $40 million in 2023 — it seems plausible to believe Goff could break into the league's top-10 highest-paid passers this time next year.

Jared Goff career earnings

A former first overall pick, the former California star has earned just over $161 million playing for both the Rams and Lions and will earn roughly $26.65 million to that total during the 2024 season, per Spotrac.com.

He entered the league rolling in the dough, netting $27.5 million in guaranteed money on the signing of his rookie deal. Since then, Goff has gone from strength to strength, not only becoming one of the league's better QBs, but also one of its better-paid ones, too.

Jared Goff net worth

Goff's net worth is about $70 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth,. A majority of his net worth stems from the contracts he has signed with the Lions and Rams, but he has also made a solid chunk from endorsement deals with Red Bull, BMW, Bose, Banana Republic, Nike and Pizza Hut.

He could stand to see an increase in his bank account (and everything that touches it) with another mammoth extension.
