The Dolphins are looking to build on their return to the playoffs after a promising start to the Mike McDaniel era last season. The acquisition of former All-Pro CB Jalen Ramsey was expected to be a major step toward building a legitimate AFC contender, but the Dolphins are now left holding their breath after Ramsey went down with an injury on Thursday.
Miami needs a healthy Ramsey on the field this season to bolster its secondary after Xavien Howard took a step back in 2022.
Ramsey is a six-time Pro Bowl pick and has earned three first-team All-Pro selections between the Jaguars and Rams. Even if he doesn't play at that level, the Dolphins are banking on Ramsey to teach a young defense how to win after he won a Super Bowl with the Rams two seasons ago.

Jalen Ramsey injury update
Ramsey is set to undergo meniscus surgery and miss the start of the season after going down in practice on Thursday, according to Adam Schefter, who adds that Ramsey's ACL is intact.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport added that no timeline will be determined until the surgery, but the most likely scenario is a full meniscus repair that keeps Ramsey out until December.
On Friday, Ramsey took to social media to thank fans and teammates for their well wishes — adding that the surgery went well.
Surgery went well 🙏🏾

He grabbed his left knee after defending Tyreek Hill on a pass play. Trainers evaluated him for a bit on the sideline then he hobbled on cart.
Ramsey "hobbled" onto a cart, though Wolfe noted that he tried to stay on the field immediately after first suffering the injury while covering Tyreek Hill late in practice.
Jalen Ramsey’s apparent injury happened near the end of practice. He attempted to stay on the field initially the incomplete pass but after feeling his left knee for a bit he headed to the sidelines to be looked at by Dolphins trainers.
