Teams have backups on their active roster for just about every position. Except a few of the guys on special teams. And when the Giants kicker was injured on Sunday, they had to get creative.
Kicker Randy Bullock injured his hamstring on a kickoff following his 56-yard field goal against the Saints.
The kickoff came on the Saints' first offensive possession of the day, meaning Bullock would be out after only two kicks: a field goal and a kickoff.

The Giants don't have another kicker on the active roster. The only other player with any experience putting foot to football is punter Jamie Gillan. He entered the game with one field-goal attempt and six kickoffs in his five-year NFL career.

Here's what the Giants wound up doing without Bullock.
Who is the Giants' kicker?
The Giants do not have a Justin Reid situation on their hands, where a random position player is the team's emergency kicker. That duty falls, unsurprisingly, on the foot of Gillan.
Gillan was used in his primary punting role on the Giants' next three drives, but got a chance to show off his leg later, drilling a 40-yard field goal to end the first half with New York trailing 7-6.

And starting the second half, he handled kickoff duties, booting the ball to the New Orleans 14-yard line where it was handled by tight end Taysom Hill.
Randy Bullock injury update
Bullock injured his hamstring on the kickoff after his field goal in the first quarter, and has not returned to the game. He was listed as questionable to return by the team.
Bullock's injury is the latest to impact the Giants at the position. Graham Gano was placed on injured reserve in early November to have knee surgery. New York wound up signing former Browns kicker Cade York off Tennessee's practice squad, and signed Bullock to the practice squad.
York did not wind up playing for New York, and Bullock wound up securing starting honors. York is still on the practice squad, and could be the replacement if Bullock is forced to miss any time.
