We’re almost at the midway point of the NFL regular season, which means we're in the back half of the fantasy football regular season. This week’s bye situation is not nearly as brutal as last week's, but we’ll still be without two top-end QBs (Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert). As you ready your roster for the start of the home stretch, our Week 8 fantasy QB rankings are here to help with fantasy's highest-scoring position.
Speaking of byes, fantasy owners who rely on Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, Matthew Stafford, and Kirk Cousins are relieved to have their QBs back in action. Hopefully, you were able to find a formidable bye-week replacement, keeping your fantasy team afloat. While only the Chiefs and Chargers are idle this week, injuries and disappointments are continuing to cause problems. Per usual, last week’s waiver wire watchlist highlighted a few QBs who can fill in as viable streaming options for Week 8.
Daniel Jones (@ Seahawks), Marcus Mariota (vs. Panthers), Jameis Winston/Andy Dalton (vs. Raiders), Jared Goff (vs. Dolphins), and Davis Mills (vs. Titans) highlight that group. Jones is the safest pivot given his rushing ability and juicy matchup, but using the Saints' starter isn’t a bad move, as the Raiders entered Week 7 allowing the most fantasy points per game (FPPG) to QBs. Goff is a solid choice because we've seen his high ceiling in favorable matchups, and Mariota is mostly on the list because of his rushing-aided floor.

It was nice to see Miami’s Tua Tagoavailoa (concussion), Dallas’ Dak Prescott (thumb), and Pittsburgh's Kenny Pickett (concussion) back on the field in Week 7. While those three signal callers returned to game action, we’re still unsure of Russell Wilson's (hamstring) and Baker Mayfield's (ankle) statuses for Week 8. Even if Wilson (@ Jaguars) and Mayfield (@ Falcons) are back, most fantasy owners aren’t starting either unless they're in deep leagues (or two-QB/superflex leagues).
WEEK 8 STANDARD RANKINGS

In terms of tough matchups this week, Prescott (vs. Bears), Matthew Stafford (vs. 49ers), and Aaron Rodgers (vs. Bills) are in bad spots. You'll probably have to stick with those guys in deep leagues (with the possible exception of Rodgers), but in shallow leagues, you could swap them out for Tagovailoa (@ Lions) or Derek Carr (@ Saints). We also suggest sticking with Tom Brady (vs. Ravens), as tough as that might be. He's certainly disappointed, but the Ravens entered Week 7 as a bottom-five pass defense, so Brady still presents a high floor and solid ceiling.
WEEK 8 FANTASY PICKS: Sleepers | Busts | Start 'em, sit 'em
Going a little deeper, Trevor Lawrence (vs. Broncos), Geno Smith (vs. Giants), Jimmy Garoppolo (vs. Rams), and Pickett (@ Eagles) are a few other notable QBs who could underperform relative to their projections. While Lawrence and Smith can run a bit when the pocket breaks down, they don't really raise their floors with their rushing abilities. We advise you to avoid these QBs if possible, but given two QB1s are on bye along with a few other banged-up QBs, there are situations where starting them might be warranted.
WEEK 8 DFS LINEUPS: DraftKings | FanDuel
All in all, we could see QB scoring down a bit this week with a couple of the upper-echelon QBs drawing relatively tough matchups. In addition to the guys we mentioned, Josh Allen (vs. Packers) and Lamar Jackson (@ Buccaneers) face well-rounded defenses that could limit their boom capability. We’ll see if these QBs end up putting our slight skepticism to bed.
