The Panthers were thumped by Joe Mixon and the Bengals on Sunday. The Falcons blew a fourth-quarter lead to the Chargers. Neither team has much time to adjust, as the two are going head-to-head on Thursday night.
The two NFC South foes have losing records, with the Falcons coming in at 4-5 while the Panthers are 2-7. Despite that, Atlanta is currently in a tie for first place in the division with Tampa Bay, and a win would put the Falcons in sole possession of the division lead, at least for now.
Meanwhile, the Panthers are only two games behind the Falcons for first, but they also are in tanking mode and own the second-worst record in the league.
Atlanta and Carolina gave us a thriller in Week 8. The 37-34 OT win for the Falcons had it all — multiple lead changes, a successful Hail Mary in the dying seconds of regulation, and missed kicks that would have been game-winners. It will be hard for the two teams to recreate the drama from their first match, but we could see fireworks in Charlotte on Thursday.
