Eagles free agents 2023: 10 biggest offseason decisions for Philadelphia, from Miles Sanders to Jason Kelce image

The Eagles have made it to the 2023 Super Bowl thanks to a stellar, roster-building effort by general manager Howie Roseman. He found plenty of good bargains on the trade markets while also bolstering his team by signing high-quality players to cheap, one-year deals.

Roseman will need to repeat that success in 2023 to keep Philadelphia's Super Bowl window wide open.

The Eagles are currently projected to have just $4.2 million in cap space during the 2023 offseason, per OverTheCap.com. They will be able to create some more after releasing platers and contract restructures. But even still, it will be hard for them to keep all of the talented players on their roster.

As such, Roseman will have to figure out a plan regarding their many impending free agents and prioritize which ones he wants to re-sign.

Who are the Eagles' free agents in 2023, and which are the most important to retain? Here's what to know about Philadelphia's biggest upcoming post-Super Bowl roster decisions.

Full list of Eagles free agents 2023

The Eagles have 19 players on their 53-man roster that are playing on expiring contracts. Many of them are long-term NFL veterans, and eight are over the age of 30.

Below is a full look at the Eagles' free agents, listed alphabetically by their last names. Also included are their positions and ages.

Player Position Age
James Bradberry CB 29
Fletcher Cox DT 32
Andre Dillard OT 27
T.J. Edwards LB 26
Marcus Epps S 27
C.J. Gardner-Johnson DB 25
Brandon Graham DE 34
Javon Hargrave DT 30
Linval Joseph DT 34
Jason Kelce C 35
Rick Lovato LS 30
Gardner Minshew QB 26
Zach Pascal WR 28
Robert Quinn DE 32
Miles Sanders RB 25
Boston Scott RB 27
Isaac Seumalo G 29
Ndamukong Suh DT 36
Kyzir White LB 26

The Eagles have one additional player on their roster who is a free agent: tight end Tyree Jackson. However, the former University of Buffalo quarterback is an exclusive rights free agent, meaning that he has to accept a contract from the Eagles if they tender him one. So, the team can keep him if they so desire.

The rest of the free agents listed above, however, are unrestricted. That means the Eagles will have to work hard to re-sign their key playmakers.

Ranking the Eagles' top free agents of 2023

Who should the Eagles be most focused on re-signing? With so many starters set to hit the open market, Philadelphia could choose to go in any direction.

That said, these players probably rank as the most important for the Eagles to try to keep as they look to keep their Super Bowl window open.

1. Jason Kelce

His brother Travis might get more credit than him league-wide, but Jason Kelce has long been the best center in the NFL. He is coming off his fifth All-Pro season the last six years and hasn't missed a game for the Eagles since 2014. He is a key cog on the team's top-tier offensive line, so Philadelphia should look to keep him.

That said, Kelce just turned 35 and has pondered retirement in the past. If he calls it quits, the Eagles may turn to Cam Jurgens, a second-round pick from the 2022 NFL Draft, to take over his role. But if he doesn't, expect the Eagles to do everything they can to keep him in Philly for a 13th season.

2. James Bradberry

Kelce is the only Eagles free agent to be an All-Pro first-teamer, but Bradberry qualified for the All-Pro second team. The 29-year-old offseason pickup has been excellent across from Darius Slay and figures to command a lot of attention after racking up 44 tackles, three interceptions and 17 pass breakups in 2022.

Bradberry was cut by the Giants as a cap casualty just after the 2022 NFL Draft and landed with the Eagles on a one-year deal. He will need to be given a bigger deal than that to stick around in Philadelphia.

3. C.J. Gardner-Johnson

Gardner-Johnson was another late-offseason pickup for the Eagles. They acquired him via trade from the Saints on Aug. 30 and he became a key, versatile part of the team's defense. He can play anywhere in the secondary and led the NFL with six interceptions last year.

Gardner-Johnson is only 25 which is why he was able to jump some of the other talented players on this list. It may be hard for the Eagles to keep both him and Bradberry, so that could prove to be a difficult choice.

4. Brandon Graham

Graham is the longest-tenured member of the Eagles, as he was a first-round pick in 2010 and has remained with the team ever since.

Graham is getting long in the tooth, as he will turn 35 in April. That may mean retirement or regression is around the corner for him. Still, he tied for second on the team in 2023 with a career-best 11 sacks, so there is still a key role for him to play on this Philadelphia defense.

5. Javon Hargrave

Hargrave was one of the other Eagles to notch 11 sacks last season, and one could argue that he should rank higher than Graham. After all, Hargraves just turned 30 on Feb. 7, so he should have more in the tank than some of the team's older free agents.

Hargrave has upped his sack totals in each of his three seasons with the Eagles and graded out as the league's third-best pass-rushing defensive tackle per Pro Football Focus. That will make him a hot commodity given the importance of generating interior pass-rushing pressure.

6. T.J. Edwards

Edwards is a good Eagles success story. He was an undrafted free agent in 2019 but quickly developed into a starter for the team. The Wisconsin product has gotten better in each of his four NFL seasons and posted 159 tackles in 2022, good for the most on the Eagles and the seventh-most in the NFL.

Edwards has been solid in coverage — he broke up seven passes last year — and his 10 TFL and two sacks set or tied career highs. He is a do-it-all linebacker and the Eagles will miss what he can provide if he decides to play elsewhere.

7. Miles Sanders

One could make the case for Sanders to be ranked higher on this list given his production or lower given his lack of positional value. The No. 7 spot seems right for the 25-year-old.

Sanders had a breakout season in 2022, totaling 1,269 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns in 17 games. He had just nine rushing touchdowns during the first 40 games of his career.

Sanders proved to be a dynamic and consistent runner, averaging 4.9 yards per carry, so the Eagles could feasibly look to re-sign him. However, they have Kenneth Gainwell available to step into a full-time role, and he has looked good during the postseason. So, Sanders may not be as much of a priority for the Eagles despite his talent.

8. Isaac Seumalo

Seumalo has developed well over his seven seasons in the NFL and has turned into a solid guard for the Eagles. He is versatile, as he can play both guard spots, and he is coming off a season during which he allowed just one sack and committed six penalties.

The issue for Seumalo during his career has been staying healthy. He did so in 2022 but he played just a combined 12 games in the previous two seasons. Any deal with Seumalo would thus have to be incentive-laden.

9. Kyzir White

White is another jack-of-all-trades linebacker for the Eagles. They signed him to a one-year deal during the offseason and the former Charger put together one of his best seasons to date.

White racked up 110 tackles, 1.5 sacks and seven pass defenses as a three-down playmaker for the Eagles. If Philadelphia can't re-sign Edwards, it should put a lot of energy into bringing back White. The Eagles need to keep at least one to keep their linebacker corps in good shape.

10. Fletcher Cox

Here's another long-tenured Eagles. Cox has spent his entire, decade-long career in Philadelphia since being a first-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. He has 65 career sacks and totaled seven sacks during the 2022 season.

Cox isn't the same three-down menace he once was — he is weaker against the run these days — but he is still a big pass-rush threat. The Eagles may be able to sign him as a sub-package role player, just like they did after cutting him during the 2022 offseason.
