Three teams remain alive for the XFL championship. When the clock runs out at Audi Field on Sunday afternoon, the championship game matchup with be set.
Ben DiNucci and his Seattle Sea Dragons are traveling cross-country for a North Division date with the D.C. Defenders in the nation's capital. Arguably the two hottest teams in the league will compete for a spot in the title game at the Alamodome on Saturday, May 13.
It was a rough start to the season for Seattle, which kicked off the return campaign with an 0-2 record. However, the Sea Dragons put it into high gear going 7-1 in the last eight, earning a playoff spot thanks to owning the tiebreaker over the Battlehawks. Jim Haslett's Sea Dragons have been winning in large part due to having the XFL's best aerial attack, but they'll need even more to defeat the Defenders for the first time this year.
While Seattle wants to win through the air, D.C. prefers to keep it on the ground. It's a clash of styles and philosophies -- something the D.C. area is no stranger to.
Abram Smith headlines the Defenders' backfield which owns the league's leading rushing offense. Despite the 9-1 record for Reggie Barlow's team, they have only narrowly escaped with two wins over this Seattle group. D.C. needed a fourth-quarter comeback en route to their four-point Week 1 win and staved off a huge challenge in the final 15 minutes by the Sea Dragons to win by a point in Week 8. As east meets west for the third time this season, expect a close contest once again.
