Dallas Cowboys tight end Rico Gathers reportedly was arrested Friday night in Texas for marijuana possession.

According to 247Sports.com, the incident occurred around 11 p.m. ET in the town of Frisco. According to DallasNews.com, Gathers had less than 2 ounces of marijuana. The paper reports he posted bond Saturday around 11 a.m. ET after spending the night in jail.

This would certainly not help Gathers' chances of making the Cowboys' 53-man roster Saturday, when final cuts are announced.

Gathers, who hasn't played football since middle school, has been an interesting story the past couple of seasons. The 6-6 receiver, a basketball star at Baylor, was drafted by the Cowboys in the sixth round of the 2016 draft on the basis of a great pre-draft workout. The Cowboys had big expectations during his first season that he would develop, paying him $450,000 to play on the practice squad — making him the highest-paid practice squad player in the league at the time.

Gathers, whose father is a cousin of the late Loyola-Marymount All-American Hank Gathers, earned a spot on the roster last season. But he suffered an injury in the preseason and never played a down in the regular season. The team reportedly had cooled on Gathers' potential, after his admission last season that he wasn't focused on football.
