Former Cowboys quarterback Kellen Moore is a "top candidate" to assume duties as the team's offensive coordinator, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Sunday.
Moore is currently the Dallas quarterbacks coach, and Rapoport said if he's promoted, the team is "likely to hire" yet another former Cowboys quarterback, Jon Kitna, to fill that role. Kitna had been serving as OC for the San Diego Fleet of the new Alliance of American Football, which begins play in February.

The Cowboys parted ways with offensive coordinator Scott Linehan last week. He held the post since 2014, but came under fire as the offense struggled the past couple of seasons. Dallas ranked 22nd in the NFL in scoring (21.2 points per game) this season.
Moore, 29, started two games in three seasons (2015-17) in Dallas before retiring, so he certainly knows the culture and has impressed coach Jason Garrett.
Garrett predicted in September that Moore would land a high-profile coaching role in the league one day.
“Kellen is doing a great job, he really is,” Garrett told reporters. “He was obviously a very smart player throughout his career, it’s one of the reasons he was such a good player at the college level and professionally. And I think everybody who’s been around him probably said, ‘Boy, he’s going to be coach someday.’”
