Is Dak Prescott playing vs. Eagles? Latest news on Cowboys QB's injury status for Week 6 'Sunday Night Football' image

The Cowboys have their biggest matchup of the season coming up, traveling to Philadelphia to take on the undefeated Eagles on 'Sunday Night Football.'

The NFC East showdown features two of the hottest teams in the NFL, as the Eagles are a perfect 5-0 while the Cowboys have rattled off four consecutive wins with a 4-1 record.

Dallas has continued to churn out wins despite the absence of star quarterback Dak Prescott, who received surgery on his right thumb after suffering an injury in the Cowboys' Week 1 contest against the Buccaneers.

Backup quarterback Cooper Rush has been more than serviceable in Prescott's absence, yet to lose a game as a starter, but Prescott's return seems to be right around the corner.

The franchise QB made his return to the practice field this week, but will he be available for this Sunday's meeting with the Eagles? Take a look at the latest on Prescott's injury situation below.

Is Dak Prescott playing vs. Eagles?

Prescott has made significant progress in the recovery of his surgically repaired right thumb, but the Cowboys' star quarterback will not play in Week 6 against the Eagles, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.

He is listed as questionable on the official injury report and will reportedly go through a throwing program ahead of the game on Sunday, but it has already been announced that Dallas expects Rush to start.

Prior to the game, Prescott was throwing to receivers.

Prescott logged limited practices on Thursday and Friday for the first time since before his injury, showing signs that a return may be on the horizon.

During a local radio spot, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was asked about Prescott's return, suggesting it could come during Week 7 against the Lions.

“I don’t want to say, but he has made a lot of progress, throwing the ball with zip and (that’s) very, very important," Jones told 105.3 The FAN. "How he is healing is just great. So all systems on go there.”

Cowboys QB depth chart

The Cowboys have been riding with backup quarterback Cooper Rush, who has yet to lose a game as a starter in the NFL. Rush has led the Cowboys to four consecutive wins this season, throwing for 839 yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions and a 61.0 completion percentage through those victories.

The only other active quarterback on Dallas' roster is Will Grier — a former college football standout at Florida and West Virginia who was selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
