The Cowboys will keep All-Pro center Travis Frederick on the active roster, apparently a sign the team believes he will be able to play before midseason, according to DallasNews.com.

Frederick announced Aug. 22 he is fighting Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare neurological disorder in which the body's auto-immune system attacks the nervous system. At the time, he said doctors had not set a timetable for his return.
The Cowboys could have opted to place Frederick on the injured reserve list, which would have sidelined him the first eight games of the season before he could return. So the good news is, the Cowboys apparently feel Frederick can return to action before then. The downside is that keeping Frederick uses a roster spot, slightly limiting the team's depth.
Frederick said in his statement that his condition was caught at a "fairly early stage." He immediately underwent intravenous immunoglobulin therapy to boost his immune system.
Veteran center Joe Looney is lining up at center for the Cowboys as the season approaches.
