The Observer reported Alcohol Law Enforcement agent Omar Qureshi was surveiling the Westin Hotel in Uptown Charlotte around 12:15 a.m. Saturday and noticed McGill in the hotel’s valet area with "a small amount" of marijuana. Qureshi told the Observer McGill initially denied having the marijuana, but soon was cooperative.

The Colts waived T.Y. McGill Saturday as they cut their roster to 53 players. McGill, a 6-foot, 299-pound defensive tackle from North Carolina State, was in Charlotte to watch his alma mater play South Carolina at Bank of America Stadium.

Following Saturday's release by the Colts, McGill was claimed by the Browns Sunday. Undrafted in 2015, McGill was signed by the Seahawks but prior to the 2015 season as part of the final cuts. The Colts claimed him and he played in 12 games as a rookie. McGill appeared in 13 games last season and has 17 career tackles with five sacks.
