Antonio Brown is officially a Patriot, but his status for Week 2 remains in question.

New England coach Bill Belichick couldn't give a definitive answer during a Tuesday conference call when asked if the wide receiver will play Sunday against the Dolphins.

"You know, I don't know," Belichick said. "We just acquired him yesterday. We haven't practiced so I can't answer that question now. We'll take it day-by-day and see how it goes."

Added Belichick, per NESN: “We think he’ll help our team. Until we start working with him, part of that is actually having a hands-on opportunity to work with a player and see exactly how everything fits together and what we can develop. We’ll just see how that goes.”

Belichick was also asked what makes him confident that Brown won't pull the same stunts he did in Pittsburgh and Oakland, and compared the disgruntled receiver's situation to the one Randy Moss was in back in 2006.

“I wasn’t in either of those places, so I can’t really comment on what did or didn’t happen there,” Belichick said. “Same thing you (collectively) said about Randy Moss when we brought him in.”

The Patriots signed Brown to a one-year deal worth a reported $15 million that is rumored to include a 2020 option worth $20 million. He was traded to the Raiders in March but was released at his request Saturday after a tumultuous offseason.

Brown, who had 104 receptions for 1,297 yards with a league-leading 15 touchdowns last season, brings some impressive stats to New England but also brings a lot of baggage. The Patriots should find out pretty quickly if his disruptions are worth the hassle.

Miami is slated to host New England at 1 p.m. ET in Week 2 action.
