Bernard was set to enter the final year of his contract before the deal was finalized.
Bernard, 27, was selected by the Bengals in the second round of the 2013 draft and has averaged 4.2 yards per carry as well as 8.6 yards per reception over his six-year career. Though he hasn't been immune to injuries, he still has appeared in at least 10 games for the Bengals each season.
He took on a lesser role last season as Joe Mixon developed and took over as the primary running back. He had 56 carries for 211 yards and three touchdowns while adding 35 catches for 218 yards in 12 games in 2018.
