Angry Travis Kelce pushes Andy Reid: Super Bowl 58 camera catches Chiefs star yelling at coach image

Travis Kelce let his emotions get the best of him in the second quarter of Super Bowl 58, taking his frustrations out on Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.

Kelce has made a massive impact for Kansas City during its 2024 NFL playoff run, tallying 23 receptions for 262 yards and three touchdowns over the Chiefs' first three games.

The superstar tight end had been held silent through the first 1.5 quarters of action in the Super Bowl, and his temper boiled over following a costly Chiefs' red-zone turnover early in the second quarter.

The 49ers' defense bottled up the Chiefs' offense in the first quarter of Super Bowl 58, holding Kansas City scoreless through the first 15 minutes of play.

Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes finally worked his magic early in the second quarter, connecting with WR Mecole Hardman on a 52-yard bomb to bring the Chiefs inside the 49ers' 10-yard line.

To that point in the contest, Kelce had been a non-factor with just one catch for one yard. The star tight end was open on Mahomes' big play to Hardman, and he was visibly frustrated that he wasn't targeted until he saw the long completion.

On the very next play, Isiah Pacheco coughed up a costly turnover as 49ers CB Deommodore Lenoir stripped the ball loose and 49ers DT Javon Hargrave was first to fall on it.

The mistake halted all of Kansas City's momentum, and Kelce was not happy his number wasn't called in the game-altering moment.

Moments after the Chiefs' turnover, the Super Bowl broadcast caught Kelce screaming on the sidelines before pushing head coach Andy Reid.

The assumption was that Kelce was displeased with his lack of involvement in the offense, even as a blocker, as he clearly wanted to be involved in key situations. Indeed, he appeared to simmer down in the second half in overtime, as he finished the game with a team-high nine catches for 93 yards.

After the game, Reid was asked about his run-in with Kelce, and he downplayed it.

"He keeps me young," Reid said of Kelce. "Tested that hip out. He caught me off-balance. Normally I'd give him a little bit, but I didn't have any feet under me."

So, it seems that all is well in Kansas City as the team celebrates its third Super Bowl win in the last five years.
