Andrew Luck retires: T.Y. Hilton dedicates 2019 season to 'best friend' image

Andrew Luck's retirement shocked the world, and one of his favorite targets took the time to make sure his quarterback knows how special their connection was.

Colts wide receiver T. Y. Hilton on Sunday shared his feelings on Luck's decision to call it a career at age 29 and dedicated his performance this season to his "best friend."

"Every time i think about it, Tears start to flow," Hilton tweeted. "No one understands you like i do. Our bond is one of a kind. I’ve decided to dedicate my season to my BEST FRIEND. I Love You 12. #Luck2Hilton"

Luck and Hilton entered the league together in 2012, having been drafted by the Colts two rounds apart, and quickly forged at strong alliance. Luck spoke about the bond he shared with his teammates as he announced his retirement Saturday, but highlighted his relationship with Hilton in particular.

"I had more fun throwing the football to T.Y. than should be allowed, probably," Luck said. "When I was away in 2017, I had to figure out why I wanted to come back and play football. I boiled it down simply that I like throwing the ball to my friends. I loved throwing the ball to T.Y. Hilton. He's the best football player I've ever played with, and he's a better teammate than he is a football player."

In 2017, Hilton posted his fewest receptions (57) and receiving yards (966) since his rookie campaign as Luck missed 15 games with a nagging shoulder injury. However, the two bounced back in 2018, with Hilton logging 76 catches for 1,270 yards and six touchdowns as Luck earned Comeback Player of the Year honors after throwing for 4,593 yards.
