The 49ers are likely signing quarterback Tom Savage, according to ESPN's Jordan Schultz.
Schultz reports Tuesday is the target date for the signing, and Savage will need to undergo a physical.

The 49ers are looking for QB depth in the wake of Jimmy Garoppolo's season-ending ACL injury in Week 3. His replacement, second-year QB C.J. Beathard, has averaged 347 yards passing in two starts, with four touchdowns and four interceptions. Yet his backup, Nick Mullens, is a rookie, so it couldn't hurt for the 49ers to bring in Savage as insurance.
A fourth-round pick by the Texans in 2014, Savage started nine games in three seasons in Houston, passing for 2,000 yards with a 57.5 percent completion rate. He had five touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Savage joined the Saints as a free agent in March but didn't make the 53-man roster.
