The 49ers are looking for their third consecutive NFC West title after going 13-4 and 12-5, respectively, the past two seasons. They also are trying to avoid a Super Bowl 58 hangover when facing a first-place schedule.

San Francisco once again goes into the season as a strong favorite to take the division and also leads the short list of top conference championship contenders. Brock Purdy and the Niners still have unfinished business trying to get coach Kyle Shanahan his elusive first ring after falling short twice in five seasons vs. the Chiefs.

Here's how San Francisco's schedule shapes up for the 2024 NFL season:

49ers strength of schedule

Based on the combined 2023 winning percentage (.505, 146-143) of their 2024 opponents, the 49ers are tied for the 12th-toughest schedule in the NFL with the Cowboys, Rams, and Jets. They face 11 winning teams from '23 and nine other teams that just went to the playoffs.

Toughest tests: The 49ers can first circle their home Super Bowl rematch with the Chiefs. They also play the Packers in Lambeau Field on top of facing both the Bills and Dolphins on the road as part of their AFC East slate. The Cowboys and Lions stand out as the top non-division NFC foes to come to Santa Clara tied to the 49ers' first-place finish.

Biggest breaks: The 49ers also draw the Jets and Patriots at home on top of the Rams, Cardinals, and Seahawks from the division. The Bears, Buccaneers, and Vikings also are quite manageable interdivision NFC games, with only the latter scheduled for the road.

Bottom line: San Francisco should get to double-digit wins again, and the question is whether it can build a good-enough record to lock down the No. 1 seed, which was huge in the playoffs in home comebacks vs. Green Bay and Detroit.

The 49ers should fare well at home during the regular season and win most of their eight games in Levi's Stadium. They also figure to split their road games given the degree of difficulty. That might open the door for another NFC power to take No. 1 instead.

49ers 2024 record prediction: 11-6
