C.J. Beathard is the new starter for San Francisco, and head coach Kyle Shanahan said the team will promote rookie QB Nick Mullens from the practice squad this week. Shanahan said Monday the team planned to bring in veterans Tom Savage, Kellen Clemens, T.J. Yates and possibly Matt Moore for a look.
One notable name not on the list: Former 49ers starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Shanahan said he'd prefer to bring in a player who could work with the current offensive scheme.
"No (on Kaepernick). There was (discussion) last year," Shanahan said. "I made that decision because of the style of offense. That's the same situation now. C.J. is our guy and we have Nick Mullens backing him up."
Landry, the Steelers' fourth-round pick in 2013, played from 2015-2017 with Pittsburgh, appearing in 18 games. He threw for 1,310 yards, with eight TDs and seven interceptions.
