After commitments from Dillon Brooks, Jamal Murray, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Canada Basketball can now count on RJ Barrett being available this summer.
Barrett announced his intentions to play for the National Team ahead of his first game as a pro in his home city of Toronto.
"100% I'm playing this summer," Barrett told reporters. "I want to play for Canada any time I can."
Barrett is no stranger to the National Team. He led Canada to a gold medal at the 2017 FIBA U-19 Basketball World Cup in Cairo, Egypt earning MVP honours along the way.
He also made his senior team debut in an effort to help Canada qualify for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup before playing his freshmen season at Duke.
The 19-year-old rookie is averaging 15.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists through 16 games with the Knicks.
Canada will have to win one of four Olympic Qualifying Tournaments to participate at the 2020 Olympic Summer Games in Tokyo.
Canada will host one of those four six-team tournament s in Victoria B.C. On Wednesday, FIBA announced that Greece, Turkey, China, Uruguay and the Czech Republic will be joining Canada in B.C.
The tournament is set to run from June 23-28.
If Canada is able to win the tournament, they'll qualify for the Olympics for the first time since 2000 in Sydney, Australia.
