Canadian RJ Barrett hasn't even played his first NBA game yet and is already setting records.
Barrett, alongside his Duke teammate and No. 1 overall draft pick Zion Williamson, have crushed merchandise records according to the New York Post.
"(They're) both likeable, well-spoken athletes who don’t have any baggage," sports marketing consultant Joe Favorito told the NY Post.
“At the end of the day, how (Zion) and RJ play in the NBA will determine their ultimate value."
According to NBA merchandiser Fanatics, Williamson — who was selected by the New Orleans Pelicans — has sold more Nike jerseys and $32 T-shirts than the entire first round of the 2018 NBA Draft put together.
The 19-year-old Barrett has sold two times as much merchandise as former Los Angeles Lakers' No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 draft Lonzo Ball — who previously held the record for merchandise sales, according to Fanatics.
Barrett and Williamson, who were college roommates at Duke, will square off in their first-ever game at the 2019 Las Vegas NBA Summer League on Friday, July 5th at 9:30 p.m. ET. The game will air nationally in the U.S. on ESPN, with a Canadian broadcaster to be named at a later date.
