The recruiting saga of 2019 five-star receiver Bru McCoy keeps on getting weirder.
To recap: McCoy enrolled early at USC in January, only to transfer to Texas after reportedly becoming disenchanted with the way the Trojans' program was run. While at Texas, McCoy awaited an NCAA decision on whether he'd be eligible to play immediately. Now, according to a statement released by McCoy on social media— he will enter the transfer portal, where it is widely considered he will to transfer back to USC.

According to 247Sports, the reason for a second transfer is a bout of homesickness. McCoy is from Santa Ana, Calif., roughly 40 miles away from USC's campus.
According to 247Sports, who cited sources close to the situation, McCoy's parents had asked him to stick it out at Texas, saying he'd likely feel different once the football season began. It should be noted that McCoy, the No. 1 athlete in the country and its no. 9 overall recruit, drew good reviews in the spring and still holds a good relationship with Longhorns receivers coach Drew Mehringer.
On Wednesday, Rivals Texas writer Anwar Richardson reported Mehringer, Texas coach Tom Herman, quarterback Sam Ehlinger and director of player development Kevin Washington traveled to California to meet with McCoy and his family, which was seemingly corroborated by Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte at the Big 12 spring meetings.

It seems that meeting fell short, however, and was not enough to dissuade McCoy from entering the portal.

Just another quirk of the transfer portal era: Having to re-recruit your own players. As for McCoy, it remains to be seen whether he will follow through with his transfer — either to or from Texas.
