It seems Alabama hasn't got over the injury bug that plagued the team during the 2017 season. The latest victim: Junior linebacker Terrell Lewis, who coach Nick Saban announced on Tuesday, has suffered a torn ACL.

“Terrell Lewis suffered a torn right ACL last week while training," Saban said in a statement. "He underwent successful surgery today, and a timeframe for his return is unknown at this time.”

The injury is the latest setback for Lewis, who missed 10 games last season after suffering a torn ligament in the Tide's season-opening win over Florida State. In the four games in which he competed, he compiled 10 tackles (two for loss) and an overtime sack in the national title game against Georgia.

Lewis later addressed his surgery on Twitter, saying his surgery went well.

The injury is certainly a hit to the Tide's defensive depth ahead of the 2018 season, putting increased pressure on Christian Miller, Mack Wilson, Anfernee Jennings, Dylan Moses and others. The Tide can only hope it's not indicative of another wave of injuries, similar to the one they suffered last year, when 14 defensive players missed a combined 40 games during the regular season.
