We're halfway through the 2019 college football season, and Sporting News' midseason All-American team reflects two of the big storylines heading into the second half of the year.

No. 1 Alabama vs. No. 2 LSU is one of college football's most anticipated matchups in recent memory, and SN chose LSU’s Joe Burrow as the first-team quarterback ahead of our 2018 player of the year, Tua Tagovailoa. Burrow is joined by cornerback Derek Stingley Jr., while Alabama's DeVonta Smith is the only Crimson Tide player represented on our midseason team.

The Oct. 26 matchup between No. 3 Ohio State and No. 6 Wisconsin is another key matchup, with three Buckeyes and Badgers each represented on the midseason ballot. Guard Wyatt Davis, defensive end Chase Young and cornerback Jeff Okudah made the team for Ohio State while running back Jonathan Taylor, center Tyler Biadasz and linebacker Zack Baun represent Wisconsin.

The only other team to boast three players on this team is Oregon, with offensive linemen Penei Sewell and Shane Lemieux and tight end Jacob Breeland, who is done for the season after sustaining an injury against Colorado. Defending national champion Clemson is the only other team with multiple selections (two).

Sporting News is one of five outlets used to determine consensus All-American status, so it's a good idea to stay on this team. With that in mind, our picks for 2019 midseason All-Americans:
