No. 2 Ohio State looks to build off its strong Week 1 performance against MAC foe Western Michigan on Saturday evening.
The Buckeyes thumped Akron, 52-6, behind a bevy of new faces. Quarterback Will Howard, a transfer from Kansas State, threw for 228 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Quinshon Judkins, an Ole Miss transfer, punched home his first Ohio State touchdown.
But no one impressed more than freshman receiver Jeremiah Smith. A five-star recruit, Smith dazzled in his collegiate debut, hauling in six catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns, making an early bid to become the next great Buckeye receiver.
Western Michigan, which hung with Wisconsin in its season-opener on Friday, will look to slow down Ohio State's talented attack. The Broncos had a brief fourth-quarter lead over the Badgers, but Wisconsin closed the game with two unanswered scores to win 28-14.
Redshirt sophomore running back Jalen Buckley paced Western Michigan with 64 rushing yards and two touchdowns. To beat the Buckeyes, the Broncos will need more out of senior quarterback Hayden Wolff, who threw for just 141 yards and an interception.
This will mark the second meeting all-time between the two programs, with Ohio State winning the lone meeting in 2015.
