It seems Ryan Day's run as interim coach for Ohio State has gone a lot farther than a 3-0 record.
According to a report from The Athletic, the Buckeyes are considering naming the 39-year-old co-offensive coordinator their coach in waiting behind Urban Meyer, who returned to the sideline Saturday against Tulane, coaching for the first time since serving a three-week suspension.

The information comes from a source close to the situation who requested anonymity from The Athletic as discussions are ongoing. The source reportedly said Day's 3-0 run as interim coach — in which Ohio State outscored opponents 169-62 — is part of the reason he was Ohio State's choice.
Ohio State also chose Day as interim coach even though two other coaches on staff (defensive coordinator Greg Schiano and co-offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson) have college head coaching experience at Rutgers and Indiana, respectively.
That makes sense, considering Day in February signed a three-year extension that will pay him $1 million annually starting with the 2018 season. The extension was unusual in that Ohio State normally signs assistants to one- or two-year extensions. The pact also made Day and Schiano Ohio State's first million-dollar assistants at $1 million and $1.5 million, respectively.
