The Game has delivered a number of classics. And the 2023 edition will rank among the very best.
No. 2 Ohio State and No. 3 Michigan met in Ann Arbor in what was all but certainly a College Football Playoff quarterfinal in the final year of the four-team CFP. And guided by interim head coach Sherrone Moore, it was Michigan that was ready for the challenge.
Blake Corum, who returned for the chance to play his first healthy game against the Buckeyes, scored Michigan's first and last touchdowns, and a pair of interceptions off a shaky Kyle McCord was all Michigan needed to outlast Ohio State and win a thrilling 30-24 matchup, punching Michigan's ticket to the Big Ten Championship and all but wrap up a CFP berth.
The past two editions of The Game were both Michigan blowouts. But for the most part, Ohio State held in throughout the contest, matching all but two of the Wolverines' scoring drives with points of their own.
McCord's first-quarter interception and some special teams miscues wound up being the two biggest problems for the Buckeyes. McCord threw a pick to Will Johnson trying to find Marvin Harrison Jr. on a slant on the Ohio State's third drive of the game, giving Michigan great field position. The Wolverines converted it into a Corum touchdown to take a 7-0 lead.
Trailing 14-10 going into the second half, Ohio State opted to wind down the clock and attempt a 52-yard field goal rather than try a fourth-and-2. The Jayden Fielding field-goal attempt sailed wide left, and Ohio State went to the locker room trailing by four.
Ohio State's punting game also struggled mightily when the Buckeyes weren't scoring. Jesse Mirco averaged just 36.7 yards per punt, and Michigan had an average starting field position of its own 32 compared to Ohio State's average starting spot of its own 23.

Corum, who returned for Michigan to have his senior year and another shot at the Buckeyes, finished the game with 88 rushing yards on 22 carries, including two touchdowns. Harrison caught five passes for 118 yards and a touchdown.
Michigan will now head into the Big Ten Championship against No. 17 Iowa and have a chance to make it three straight Big Ten titles. Ohio State will now await the remainder of the season and the conference championships, hoping for another miracle to wind up in the College Football Playoff after it snuck in last year.
