While none of the teams in the ACC necessarily jump off the page as national title contenders this season, they're not completely without merit either.
The conference has produced some of the nation's top quarterbacks this season, with several ACC gunslingers in the top-20 of most major statistical categories. Notably is Virginia's Brennan Armstrong who ranks fourth in completions, second in passing yards and is tied for fifth in passing touchdowns with fellow ACC quarterback Sam Hartman of Wake Forest.
BENDER: What would a 12-team Playoff look like after second rankings?
Armstrong has helped lead the Cavaliers to a 6-3 start so far this year, though Bronco Mendenhall's squad has yet to notch a signature win this season. They're looking to change that as No. 9 Notre Dame heads to Charlottesville having won four in a row and sitting at 8-1 on the season.
The Cavaliers' quarterback is in his second year starting and has improved mightily since last year — he's got 27 touchdowns in nine games to go along with 3,557 yards while completing over 64 percent of his passes.
Notre Dame has just one ranked win this year — over then-No. 17 Wisconsin — while struggling against Florida State, Toledo and Virginia Tech, losing to those three teams — who are a combined 11-16 this year — by a total of nine points.
BENDER: 10 best college football games left in November
The Fighting Irish have been led by quarterback and former Wisconsin starter Jack Coan, who's in his first season in South Bend and has been serviceable, not great, this year. So far, he has 13 touchdowns and three intereptions while completing over 65 percent of his passes but has just 1,879 yards through nine games.
A commanding win will likely propel the Irish further up the CFP rankings while a win by Virginia would give the Cavaliers their first top-10 win under Mendenhall and just their fourth ranked win overall in Mendenhall's six years.
