It took seven years, but Jim Harbaugh has led his alma mater back to national prominence. The No. 2 Wolverines routed No. 13 Iowa 42-3 on Saturday in the 2021 Big Ten championship game to earn a berth in the College Football Playoff and capture the program's first conference title since 2004.
Michigan got off to a hot start, jumping out to a 14-0 lead after a 67-yard touchdown run by Blake Corum and a 75-yard TD completion from Donovan Edwards to Roman Wilson off a double pass. They were held in check after that, taking a 14-3 lead to the locker room at halftime.

But the Wolverines came alive and the Hawkeyes sputtered in the second half, with Michigan scoring 28 unanswered points. The Wolverines ended up overpowering the Hawkeyes, outgaining them 461-279 for the game while averaging 7.4 yards per play and registering 21 first downs.
Michigan scored touchdowns on four of its final five drives, while Iowa punted on seven of its last nine drives. The Wolverines also opted for a by-committee approach in both the run and the pass games, using eight different rushers and 10 different receivers. No single rusher or receiver eclipsed 100 yards. Hassan Haskins rushed for 56 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries and caught three passes for 22 yards.

And while Michigan's usually stout defense kept Iowa off the field, it didn't put up the gaudy numbers it has in recent weeks. The Wolverines registered just one sack and just four tackles for loss.
Michigan is all but assured of make the College Football Playoff; it's just a matter of where the Wolverines are seeded after No. 1 Georgia's loss to Alabama in the SEC title game.
