Actor Mark Harmon, a former quarterback at UCLA, is this year's recipient of the National Football Foundation Gold Medal, which is awarded by the NFF and College Football Hall of Fame.

Harmon, the star of the television drama “NCIS,” will be honored alongside the Campbell Trophy recipient at the 62nd Annual NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 10 that will celebrate the 150th anniversary of college football.

The NFF Gold Medal recognizes athletes with accomplishments and a reputation that reflects the values of college football. It is NFF's most prestigious award and was first presented by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1958.

Harmon is the son of Tom Harmon, who won the Heisman Trophy for Michigan in 1940. Mark Harmon, a versatile Wishbone-T quarterback, led UCLA to an upset against two-time defending national champion Nebraska in the 1972 season opener. He led the Bruins to a 17-5 record from 1972-73. He was honored at the NFF Awards dinner when John Wayne accepted the NFF Gold Medal in 1973.

Harmon declined a chance at the NFL in order to pursue an acting career, starring in various TV shows, including “St. Elsewhere” and “Chicago Hope.” Harmon is most recognized for his role on “NCIS,” which was renewed for a 17th season. He is the executive producer of the hit TV show now.
