Auburn will be without its second-leading rusher for, potentially, the rest of the 2017 season.
Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said during a team news conference on Tuesday that running back Kamryn Pettway has a shoulder injury that will keep him sidelined for some time.
WEEK 10 PICKS: Straight up | Against the spread
"Kam Pettway suffered a fracture in his scapula," Malzahn said. "We did not know that until last Friday. ... He'll be out for an extended period of time."
Pettway rushed 11 times for 90 yards and three touchdowns against Arkansas in a 52-20 Tigers win. It was his best game of the season since rushing for 128 yards and three scores in the team's Week 2 win over Mercer.
Pettway has 76 carries for 305 yards for the season, though he has had to deal with the injury bug all year. With his absence, Kerryon Johnson will now be the full-time featured back in Auburn's offense, though third-string back Kam Martin (264 yards, one touchdown, 8.0 yards per carry) stands to see an increase in carries as well.
The injury announcement comes at a critical juncture for the SEC West's second-place team. Auburn (6-2, 4-1 SEC), finishes the season against Texas A&M, No. 2 Georgia and No. 1 Alabama.
