The finalists for the 2019 William V. Campbell Trophy were announced on Wednesday, and Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert and Ohio State’s Jordan Fuller are among the finalists.
The Campbell Trophy — often referred to as the “Academic Heisman” — recognizes student-athletes for their work on and off the field. The National Football Foundation honors the winner on Dec. 10 at its annual awards dinner in New York City.

Herbert, who bypassed the 2019 NFL Draft, has led the Ducks to a 7-1 record, completing 179 of 262 passes for 2,104 yards and 21 touchdowns to one interception. Fuller, who also skipped last year’s draft, is a key piece of Ohio State’s defense. The safety has 41 tackles and two interceptions.
This year’s class of finalists combined for an average 3.82 GPA.
Other finalists include Eastern Washington’s Spencer Blackburn, Georgia’s Rodrigo Blankenship, Ohio State’s Jordan Fuller, Minnesota State’s Alex Goettl, Kansas State’s Adam Holtorf, Carnegie Mellon’s Michael Lohmeier, Virginia’s Jordan Mack, Montana’s Dante Olson, Cornell’s Jelani Taylor, Stanford’s Casey Toohill and Western Michigan’s Jon Wassink.
Fuller, Herbert, Holtorf and Lohmeier are two-time Academic All-Americans.
Clemson’s Christian Wilkins won the Campbell Trophy last season.
