Heisman Trophy watch: Updated odds for Hendon Hooker, other top candidates to win 2022 award image

The Heisman Trophy race will heat up in November.

The field is starting to take shape. Ohio State's C.J. Stroud, Tennessee's Hendon Hooker and USC's Caleb Williams remain the favorites, but there is room for a last-minute candidate like Tennessee receiver Jalin Hyatt to emerge.

The award will be given out on Dec. 10, and Alabama quarterback Bryce Young still is trying to become the first two-time winner since Ohio State's Archie Griffin. Young had a bye this week before a Week 10 showdown at No. 18 LSU

Here is a look at the current Heisman odds, the top six potential finalists and need-to-know-items for the Heisman race:

Current Heisman Trophy Odds

A look at the latest Heisman Trophy odds before Week 9.

Heisman candidates

C.J. Stroud, QB, Ohio State (-110)

Week 9 stats: 26 of 33, 354 yards, TD

2022 stats: 2,377 passing yards, 71.3%, 29 TDs, 4 INTs

Stroud was consistent in a 44-31 victory at No. 13 Penn State. He had 179 yards before halftime and 175 yards in the second half, and he completed seven passes of 20 yards or more. Stroud has developed an outstanding connection with go-to receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., who had 10 catches for 185 yards. Stroud continues to hold the lead in the race with a chance for a signature performance in the regular-season finale against No. 3 Michigan.

Hendon Hooker, QB, Tennessee (+200)

Week 9 stats: 19 of 25, 245 yards, 3 TDs

2022 stats: 2,338 yards, 71.2% 21 TDs, 1 INT

Hooker led a 44-6 blowout against No. 19 Kentucky with another efficient performance, and he added 23 rushing yards and a TD. Hooker now has guided Tennessee to victories against four ranked opponents. If Hooker can lead the Vols past No. 1 Georgia in Week 10 he will not just be the front-runner. The award might be his to lose at that point.

Caleb Williams, QB, USC (+1200)

Week 9 stats: 31 of 45, 411 yards, 5 TDs

2022 stats: 2,382 yards, 64.7%, 24 TDs, 1 INT

Williams is a high-volume passer, but with the exception of completion percentage his numbers are in the neighborhood of Stroud and Hooker. He put up huge numbers in a 45-37 shootout against Arizona, and that was without star receiver Jordan Addison. Williams is in line to be a finalist at this point, and there still is a time for a November push.

Blake Corum, RB, Michigan (+1400)

Week 9 stats: 33 carries, 177 yards, TD

2022 stats: 179 attempts, 1,078 rushing yards, 6.0 ypc., 14 TDs

Corum carried the workload in a 29-7 victory against rival Michigan State, and he added a short touchdown on a shovel pass. Corum faces long odds as a running back, but the Wolverines still have matchups against No. 17 Illinois and star running back Chase Brown before the season-ending matchup against the Buckeyes. Corum has more chances to shine in the national spotlight.

Bryce Young, QB, Alabama (+2000)

Week 9 stats: No game

2022 stats: 1,906 passing yards, 66.3%, 18 TDs, 3 INTs

The Crimson Tide had a bye week, and Young will have a week to rest his shoulder before a closing stretch that includes back-to-back trips to No. 18 LSU and No. 15 Ole Miss. He averaged 273 passing yards with four TDs and one interception in the victories against those teams last season. Young still is in the mix, and the duel with a resurgent Jayden Daniels at Tiger Stadium is worth looking forward to in Week 10.

Bo Nix, QB, Oregon (+3500)

Week 9 stats: 27 of 35, 412 yards, 3 TDs, 2 INTs, 3 rushing TDs

2022 stats: 2,221 passing yards, 72.2%, 20 TDs, 5 INTs

Nix continued his fringe campaign with a 400-yard effort in a 42-24 victory against Cal. Nix has averaged 10 yards per attempt or more in each of Oregon's last three games, and despite the two interceptions remains one of the more-remarkable transfer portal pickups of 2022.

Jalin Hyatt, WR, Tennessee

Week 9 stats: 5 catches, 138 yards, 2 TDs

2022 stats: 45 catches, 907 yards, 20.2 ypc.,14 TDs

Hyatt is not listed in the odds above, but he should be. He broke the Vols' single-season TD receptions record with two more scores against Kentucky. He is the best vertical threat in the FBS right now. Could Tennessee get two finalists to New York? No other team can say that right now.

When is the Heisman Trophy Ceremony?

The Heisman Trophy will be awarded on Dec. 10, one week after the conference championship games. The ceremony will be televised at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
