Kentucky coach Mark Stoops is on the precipice of a career-defining victory at Florida on Saturday.
Should the 20th-ranked Wildcats come away from Ben Hill Griffin Stadium with a victory over the 12th-ranked Gators, it will be the first time since 1976-77 that Kentucky has beaten Florida two years in a row. Kentucky beat Florida 20-13 last season in Lexington, its second win in four seasons over the Gators.
Perhaps that will be enough to give the Kentucky football program a bit more respect.
The Gators have dominated this series all time, claiming a 53-19 advantage over the Wildcats. All that will amount to nothing when the teams face off this week. Just ask Utah how much history and rankings matter: The then-seventh-ranked Utes lost to the then-unranked Gators last week on a last-second interception in the end zone.

Of course, the biggest story from that game was the emergence of Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson, who completed 17 of 24 passes for 168 yards, adding 106 rushing yards and three scores in the upset victory.
The Wildcats will have their hands full keeping track of the dual-threat QB. But the Gators will need to keep an eye on Will Levis, coming off a 300-yard passing game in which he threw for three touchdowns.
