President Donald Trump will attend the College Football Playoff national championship game between No. 1 LSU and No. 3 Clemson on Monday, the White House has confirmed.
The Advocate (Baton Rouge, La.) originally reported on Jan. 3 that Trump may attend the game, which the White House corroborated on Jan. 6. It will be the second LSU game the president has witnessed for the 2019 season: He was also on hand in Tuscaloosa, Ala., to watch the "Game of the Century" between the Tigers and Crimson Tide.

Donald Trump at sporting events
The Playoff title game will be the first sporting event of the new year which Trump attends. He attended four such events in the 2019 calendar year:
- World Series Game 5
- UFC 244
- LSU at Alabama
- Army-Navy Game
Trump also attended 2018 Playoff title game between No. 3 Georgia and No. 4 Alabama, held in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Will Donald Trump get booed at CFP championship game?
It remains to be seen whether Trump will receive airtime on the Mercedes-Benz Superdome jumbtron or ESPN's broadcast of the game.
Trump was given mixed receptions at various sporting events over the last year. He received applause in Tuscaloosa and Philadelphia for the LSU-Alabama and Army-Navy games, respectively. That said, he still made headlines at each of those events: Ahead of his visit to Tuscaloosa, Alabama's SGA warned against "disruptive behavior" during his visit; he was also accused of emboldening a "white power" hand sign during the Army-Navy Game.
Trump wasn't as warmly received at the World Series or UFC 244. He was booed at both, though fans at Game 5 of the World Series (held in Washington, D.C.) took it up a notch with chants of "lock him up."
