College football has been filled with great personalities. But few carry the weight of a man like Deion Sanders. He is a heel to some, an icon to others and, most recently, a coach for the stars.

And he's got Colorado rolling as of late. The Buffaloes continue to hit all of their marks on the field, rolling through an upstart Nebraska squad to thrust themselves up to No. 18 in the national rankings. Now, they await another test, one that promises to get the juices flowing all that much more.

For Colorado's next test isn't just a regular foe. Rather, it's a sibling school, one that locks horns with its southern rivals more than most. The Buffs face off against Colorado State on Saturday in the Rocky Mountain Showdown.

The rivalry matchup offers Deion Sanders and Co. the opportunity to accomplish two goals. For starters, a victory would present Sanders with his first piece of hardware at his new school: the much-vaunted Centennial Cup is up for grabs come Saturday, a cherished heirloom in the right hands, a wretched weed in the wrong.

Additionally, Sanders is attempting to make his home stadium — Folsom Field — a fortress. What better way to do that than welcoming the hated reactionaries into your humble abode? Nothing bonds us like our willingness to curse and shout and goad opposition fans. Especially when they come from your own state.

Sanders and his crew are hoping to make another statement on Saturday. If so, it'll be hard to ignore them much longer. Especially not with Pac-12 play on the horizon.
