A telling week of college football is upon us: the last slate of games before the College Football Playoff rankings unveils its first rankings.
What will that first top 25 look like? It's likely the usual suspects will be at or near the top, but there are several games worth monitoring this weekend that could affect those rankings. Of particular interest will be No. 9 Indiana and No. 3 Ohio State, which face off in a battle to help determine the Big Ten East champion.
The Hoosiers have already beaten Michigan, Michigan State and Penn State, so a win over the Buckeyes — which hasn't occurred since 1988 — could clinch the division for Indiana. Easier said than done: Ohio State, led by Justin Fields, looks to be the real deal not only in the Big Ten, but also in the Playoff race. Look for a similarly important race in the Big Ten West when No. 10 Wisconsin takes on No. 19 Northwestern.
The only other ranked game this week — No. 14 Oklahoma State (5-1, 4-1 Big 12) at No. 18 Oklahoma (5-2, 4-2 Big 12) — could decide whether the Big 12 has a slim chance at making the Playoff, or none at all. No two-loss team has ever made the final four teams, and the Cowboys will be keenly aware of that when they take on the Sooners in Norman. Oklahoma State has not won in Bedlam since 2014.
Also of note: No. 7 Cincinnati and No. 8 BYU, undefeated non-Power 5 teams, face outmatched competition this week. No Group of 5 team and only one independent (Notre Dame) has ever made the Playoff; will this be the first year that trend breaks? If so, they may need to pour it on to pass the Playoff committee's eye test.
With that, Sporting News has you covered on how to watch every game involving a top-25 and Power 5 team:
